Vintage McCoy Planter of a Donkey (Burro) and crouching Mexican, with your choice of one succulent or cacti.  For this type of planter, I recommend cacti or succulents of the Haworthia species (for their drought tolerance and heartiness) since there is no drainage hole and watering should be very minimal - once every two weeks.

I always include a layer of pebbles and activated charcoal (to neutralize bacteria nad mold) at the bottom of planters with no drainage hole so that plant roots are protected from sitting in water and thus developing fatal root rot.
